Grant Scams
By Credit Federal | Published 02/19/2006
Warning: There is a growing number of grant scams.

Grant scams; once limited mainly to online web sites, are increasing via telephone solicitations.  The latest of these scams are from persons misrepresenting themselves as private foundation or entity of the U.S. government.

Telephone solicitations: Callers; sometimes using a private phone number or an 800 number, phones consumers and promises them a cash grant will be deposited into their bank checking account. The callers ask for consumers bank account information (routing number and account number) so the funds can be deposited.

There are no known government; nor private grant foundations, which contact consumers via telephone.

As with any call, you should never give your banking (or credit card) information to any unknown caller.

The latest version of these scam solicitations are targeting consumers who were in a natural disaster area, promising a cash grant to help recover their personal losses.  Most noteably, people in the New Orleans and Mississippi Gulf Coast areas.

Free access to legitimate grants.
