American Express and Qantas launch suite of co-branded consumer travel credit cards.
American Express and Qantas Airways today revealed the Qantas American Express Credit Cards. These fully featured products offer Qantas Frequent Flyers accelerated points earning rates and financial flexibility.
The three-card product suite offers an earn rate of up to 2.5 Frequent Flyer points for every dollar spent(i) with Qantas in Australia on Qantas services and no limit to the number of points people can earn. Cardmembers will receive a minimum of between 1 and 1.5 Frequent Flyer points per dollar spent on other purchases, depending on the card selected.
Cardmembers will also receive a bonus of 2,500 or 5,000 points after the first spend on the card(ii), and a further 2,500 bonus points when they first spend with Qantas in Australia on Qantas services. Points accumulated will be automatically transferred to the Cardmembers' Qantas Frequent Flyer account each month.
Pierric Beckert, Managing Director, American Express Australia said, "What differentiates these products is the accelerated points earn rate and loyalty bonus - the more loyal cardmembers are to flying with Qantas and moving their spend onto their American Express card the more they will be rewarded."
Rob Gurney, Qantas Head of Sales and Distribution, said the relationship with American Express was a natural fit for both organisations that built on existing ties.
"Qantas has had a strong partnership with American Express since 1993 and they were the first card partner in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. In 2003 we launched a co-brand corporate card which has proven successful in enhancing loyalty from small and medium sized businesses."
Mr Beckert said the suite of Qantas American Express credit cards was developed using needs based segmentation and the products reflect the differing needs and travelling behaviours of Australian consumers, resulting in best in class credit card products.(iii)

"Our research indicates that frequent travellers will be loyal to companies that reward them. They want to earn points fast, they don't want limits on the amount they can collect and they want features such as insurances, financial flexibility, entertainment privileges and points from bonus partners," said Pierric Beckert.
"The Qantas American Express Cards offer all these rewards. Furthermore, following their first spend each year with Qantas in Australia on Qantas services(i), Premium Cardmembers(iv) will receive two Qantas Club lounge invitations, and Ultimate Cardmembers will receive one return domestic flight between selected Australian capital cities.(v)"
The Qantas American Express card will be available from 9 February 2006.
(i) When a Cardmember spends with Qantas in Australia on Qantas Services. Definition of Qantas services does not include Jetstar, Australian Airlines or Qantas Holidays.
(ii) Qantas American Express Credit Cardmembers will receive a bonus of 2,500 points following their first spend on the card, Qantas American Express Premium Cardmembers and Qantas American Express Ultimate Cardmembers will receive a bonus of 5,000 points following their first spend on the card.
