Fuel Efficient Auto Incentives
By Credit Federal | Published 04/9/2009
Fuel efficient auto incentives to buy green. Apply online for a good or bad credit auto loan.

Everyone has an answer to saving GM and Chrysler and the biggest idea is to get buyers into showrooms to make a purchase. With all the concerns about job security,
the stock market, and other economic worries, many consumers simply are not spending money on new cars. Much has been said that GM and Chrysler both need to restructure and be competitive. All this is great as long as consumers are secure enough to make a purchase.

The Government and President Obama are doing some things to try to generate sales.  One way will be to offer consumers money if they will trade in their gas hogs for a fuel
efficient new auto. GM estimates that alone may boost sales to over one million by the end of 2009. Environmentalist may be pleased that this idea will reduce the number of older cars in the environment and their pollution. Those autos traded in would simply be junked. All the details have not been outlined, but the cash incentive to trade in an auto requires that the new auto must be assembled in North America.

Automakers have been concerned about consumers hearing reports of bankruptcy. Consumers have indicated that they don’t want to purchase an auto from a company that may pursue bankruptcy with the fear that the warranty guarantee may not be honored. This concern along with the problems of the economy has contributed to a lack of sales.  To  counteract this problem, President Obama stated that the government would back the warranties of GM and Chrysler if companies filed bankruptcy. Once this was made public, automakers experienced more consumers
in their dealerships but it is unknown at this time whether it generated more sales. The big question for now is if automakers will file bankruptcy and what will happen then.

Buying a new fuel efficient auto may not be so easy. Some lenders are only financing the basic cost of an auto or requiring a huge down payment.  Getting credit with the current economy has not been simple for some consumers. The Federal Trade and Treasury are working to help more consumers be able to get the financing they need for a new auto. But the next concern is that the consumer may not purchase one assembled in North America. GMAC has gone so far as to indicate they will make loans to those who don’t have top credit scores. To make a sale, automakers must have consumers who have faith in their company and have a decent credit score. With the current credit crisis, getting credit can be difficult and auto sales may not improve.

Some auto makers offer to make payments in the event of a job loss and others offer to take back the auto if the buyer can’t afford the payments. Incentives may work for getting autos sold but there is concern that the automaker is still in trouble. Since the government is bailing out GM and Chrysler, they are in a way paying for the incentives offered and auto companies are not making the money they need. The Government’s program and plans to increase auto sales are still in the planning stage so all the details are not known at this time. Consumers should be alert to any news about incentives offered for trading in old autos. This could be the best chance to getting into a new auto and consider ditching a clunker.
