Harassing Debt Collector Fined
By Credit Federal | Published 11/30/2008
A harassing debt collector was fined $2.25 million. Review federal regulations and rules that protect your rights. If you need help with a debt collection company, consider do it yourself free debt settlement, credit counseling or an unsecured debt consolidation loan.

Consumers like you help fight against harassing, threatening debt collectors. In the largest civil penalty to date against a debt collector, the FTC fined Academy Collection Services, Inc and its owner $2.25 million. According to an FTC press release, the agency has a slew of FDCPA violations including making unauthorized withdrawals from consumers' bank accounts, making threatening and abusive calls, communicating with third-parties about the debt, and calling consumers' workplace knowing employers didn't approve.

If a debt collector violates your rights, you can complain to the FTC and your state's Attorney General.

Need help dealing with a debt collection company? Read more about debt collection agency rules, consider do it yourself free debt settlement, or get credit counseling or an unsecured debt consolidation loan to payoff bills.
