Creditor Rejects Debt Settlement Negotiation
By Credit Federal | Published 09/7/2008
What to do if a creditor rejects your debt settlement offer and refuses all negotiation. File bankruptcy with an attorney or get professional debt counseling consultation?

There have been news reports of homeowners; behind on mortgage payments, have ceased rendering payments and are forcing lenders to renegotiate the loan terms. In all actuality, this is not a good thing to do. Regardless if you feel the terms are unfair or not or even if you never read or understood the fine print, the fact remains that you agreed and signed a legal binding contract. Hence, you should continue to make payments under the current terms until such time as you are able to change those terms, including debt settlement proposals.

If you submitted a debt settlement proposal letter to a creditor but it gets rejected, a Consumer Credit Counseling Services counselor, a professional debt negotiator or an attorney may have better success.

The latter; an attorney, may instill greater cooperation as the creditor might fear you are on the verge of filing bankruptcy. Certainly the creditor would rather receive something versus nothing.

Submit a debt assistance request, or read more about debt negotiation settlements.
