File Disability
By Credit Federal | Published 07/28/2008
How to file disability. You can apply online or call a toll free number to file for government free money and assistance.

There are two ways to apply for disability benefits:
  • Apply at socialsecurity.gov
  • Call the toll free number 1-800-772-1213 to make an appointment to file a disability claim at your local Social Security office or to set up an appointment for someone to take your claim over the telephone.

The disability claims interview lasts about one hour. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may call a toll-free TTY number (1-800-325-0778) between 7 am and 7 pm on business days. If you schedule an appointment, a Disability Starter Kit will be mailed to you. The Disability Starter Kit will help you get ready for your disability claims interview. If you apply online, the Disability Starter Kit is available at socialsecurity.gov/disability
