American Express Travelers Cheques
By Credit Federal | Published 06/9/2008
Not only do American Express Travelers Cheques offer travel security, but can also be helpful during disasters. Travelers checks can typically be bought by any credit type, including bad credit and no credit people.

As hurricane season approaches the Atlantic region, American Express suggests stocking up on travelers cheques as well as a first aid kit, canned goods, bottled water and other essentials.

The Travelers Cheques; as well as cash in small bills, can make purchases easier, especially from stores that have no electrical power and cannot process credit card transactions.

There are pros and cons; however.

Whereas travelers cheques are refundable if lost or stolen, cash is not. Yet some people or even stores may be reluctant to accept travelers cheques; particularly small family owned stores, because they may not be able to convert the travelers checks back into cash until electrical power is restored at their local banks.

Regardless of the pros and cons, both the American Red Cross and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security list travelers cheques as recommended items for disaster preparedness.

One point is certain. Storing traverls checks at home is safer than cash since the checks can be replaced if lost or stolen. American Express Travelers Cheques are available at banks, credit unions and American Express Travel service locations.
