Beginner New Credit Applications
By Credit Federal | Published 05/15/2008
Beginners; people who yet have no credit, want to know how to get credit and get it at favorable terms. Here are tips for new credit applications.

Applications for Beginner New Credit People

Primary Tip: Since you are a beginner with absolutely no credit history, don't expect a credit card company to approve your application for a high credit limit, unsecured platinum credit card with rewards. Nor can you expect a bank to hand you a high risk personal loan for $10,000. People with no credit history are closely grouped with high risk, bad credit people. So, look for bad credit offers and you're more likely to find a credit card company or a loan lender who will approve your application.

If you already have a checking or savings account, ask your bank for a debit card or other type of credit for people without a credit history. Ask for any type of card or loan that will report your timely payments to a credit report bureau so you can establish credit.

If your bank won't approve you for a card or a loan, don't worry. You can find plenty of resources online. Some of the popular credit cards; such as secured cards, listed on CreditFederal are ideal for no credit people. Also, it's rather easy to get a retail store charge card, like a WalMart card or a Sears card. But beware: these cards are easy to get, but typically charge higher interest and fees. Nonetheless, getting such cards and making payments ontime can help you qualify for a major credit card once your good credit history is established.

As mentioned earlier, many secured credit card companies will approve no credit people, just make sure the company reports your activty to at least one credit bureau to help you establish credit. With a secured credit card, you deposit money into the account, and that amount will be your credit limit. That's the down-side... secured cards do not give you a line of credit which you can borrow... but the good side is that you won't have to worry about charging more than you can afford. Often the credit card company that issued the secured card will later offer you a no deposit credit card which does offer an unsecured line of credit you can borrow.

Some warning notes:

Try to limit the number of credit applications. Review the different offers that cater to no credit people, compare them carefully and apply for your first choice. Don't apply for the other, alternate offers unless you are denied for your first choice. The reason is because each credit application will appear on your credit report. Future credit card companies will see the activity and may think you are desperate for credit. Creditors typically avoid credit hungry people, because they consider them to be an extremely high risk.

Carefully read all the Terms and Conditions of any credit offer, especially offers which guarantee approval even if you have bad credit. The reason is because such offers typically charge higher interest and fees since they expect a percentage of people will default, so the high rates that do get paid to them will offset the losses.

Once you obtain credit, use it wisely and make your payments without ever being late.
