Bad Card Good Card
By Credit Federal | Published 07/8/2007
Credit card issuers are trying to change their image from bad to good.

Maybe the bad rap credit card companies get from the federal government and by people who spend beyond their repayment means, are motivating card issuers to improve their image.

To help college students and others make their credit card bill payments on time, Chase offers text message alerts.

Meanwhile, Discover's Motiva(SM) Card gives consumers rewards for good credit management. Cardmembers who make an on time payment six months in a row get the next month's interest on any unpaid balance back as a bonus.

The credit card also has a no fee, free bill payment by phone option. Other card issuers charge fees for over-the-phone payments.

This card; as well as other Discover cards, also has optional email alerts.

The Chase Clear & Simple program offers text messages, phone messages or email alerts, even transaction alerts for purchases of $500 or more. There's also an alert for approaching the credit limit in addition to the bill pay reminder.

As lawmakers continue to pressure credit card companies for policing their own policies, practices and fees, anticipate more consumer friendly services to roll out.
