Question About Auto Lease
By Credit Federal | Published 06/28/2007
A Credit Federal visitor asks for credit advice concerning an auto lease loan default.

Question: "I currently lease a truck through First Star Bank, Have tried every avenue to sell or obtain a person to assume my lease but no takers. I want to get out of the lease by giving the truck back, how will this affect my great credit score? If my score were a 725 what would it become?"

CreditFederal.com Response: "Per the Federal Reserve: 'You are responsible for any early termination charges if you end the lease early'.

"Since you are desiring to default on this financial obligation, the negative action to your credit report score can be the same as if you were buying versus leasing the auto and defaulted on the loan payments. We strongly suggest that you contact the lender to try to negotiate other options, as well as contacting your other financial lenders to see if you can get a loan to payoff and terminate your lease without consequences."
