Ten Students Win $30,000 Discover Scholarship Program Award
Discover Financial Services announced 10 winners of the Discover Scholarship Program Award, which awarded each student $30,000.
According to Discover Financial Services, the winners were selected based on overall excellence in the areas of leadership and community service while successfully overcoming a hardship or challenge, while also maintaining a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average.
While most other scholarship programs focus on high school seniors, Discover chose juniors to them an additional year to prepare for their advanced education and make career plans. Winners were from all parts of the country.
The award ceremony was held at Discover Financial Services' headquarters located in Riverwoods, Illinois, and celebrated the achievements of all 10 winners.
"Discover has a strong interest in supporting educational initiatives," said David Nelms, Chief Executive Officer, Discover Financial Services. "This year marks the 17th anniversary of our program which has had a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young adults. We are proud of our winners and the contributions they make in their communities."
Since the inception of the Discover Scholarship Program Award, Discover has awarded scholarships totaling nearly $16 million to more than 6,000 students. Once the student graduates from high school, scholarship funds may be applied to costs for college, university, specialized training or education beyond high school.
