Credit Card Use

Some people want a credit card to improve credit scores, for a single use, or as a single, one time use credit card purchase.

Here are the best credit card use tips:

1) Use a credit card to improve credit scores. A credit card; because of its revolving (open) line of credit, is by far one of the single greatest factors in determining credit scores. But just having a credit card with an unsecured line of credit does not help improve credit, it is how you use the credit card. If; for example, you have a high limit unsecured credit card with a $5,000 limit but you never use the card, then lenders and creditors view the open line of credit as potential debt. And, since you never use the card, you are not showing lenders and creditors how you are trustworthy in making timely payments. Basically, a credit card account which you do not use is a blank check in the hands of someone who has not proven their ability to effectively use the card. The best way to use a credit card with an open line of credit, is to make periodic charges and to repay those charges timely. But there is a catch-22; If you payoff balances in full each month, it does not show as great a history of timely repayments. Instead, most lenders and creditors prefer to see timely partial-payments.

2) One time use credit card. Some people want a credit card to use one time only, such as to make a purchase online and to never use the credit card again. Most people seeking a one time use credit card do so due to fear of having their credit card account number stolen or abused. For such people, a secured card may be the best choice. By getting a secured card for a one time use, there is no open line of credit which may viewed by lenders and creditors as a potential debt.

3) Credit card single use. Some people want a credit card for making payments on only one single type of purchase, such as travel. Either a secured card; or an unsecured card, can be used for such single uses. If choosing an unsecured credit card, consider one that offers discounts or cash back for that single type of use. For example, if the single use will be office supplies, there are many card issuers who offer 5% cash back on such purchases from select retailers like Office Max. Also, many retailers offer discounts for purchases made on their store issued cards.
