Credit Cards
According to the Credit Card survey, consumers born in the 1980s are driving a shift in purchasing behaviors that will impact the future of payments. Generation Plastic, defined as consumers 18-25, is leading the charge toward using payment cards for purchases across all price points particularly everyday purchases under $25. In fact, the majority of Generation P never leaves home without a payment card and rarely carries cash.
While adoption of small purchases (under $25) is growing among all consumers, it is particularly pronounced among Generation P. According to a recent Visa USA survey of 1,154 payment cardholders, Generation P's payment preferences include:
60 percent prefer payment cards for purchases under $25, including 44 percent who cited debit cards as their primary method of payment
Generation P leads adoption of electronic payment in new and emerging markets like digital content, vending machines, public transport and parking
Generation P is 20 percent more likely than their parents to use payment cards for small ticket purchases
They are nearly three times more willing to make micro-payments, purchases under $2, with a credit or debit card.
