Will credit report agencies lose revenue due to the new law requiring delivery a free credit report annually to consumers?
Free Credit
Report - A great benefit to consumers to help them fix credit report errors,
and to help improve credit scores.
Since federal legislation now requires credit report agencies to deliver a free credit report copy to consumers annually, this may cause a reduction of revenue. Additionally, a law already in force requiring a free credit report for declined credit applicants (if they so request one within 60 days), is already a contributor to sales.
So what are credit report agencies peddling now to make up for lower revenue?
The answer is: Credit Monitoring and ID Protection.
Before you rush out to purchase ID protection, check your home-owners insurance policy. You may find you are already covered.
There are benefits to both, particularly the credit monitoring. By being notified of unusual activity on your credit report, you have the tool necessary for early detection of ID theft.
Order your credit report so you can check for and fix errors you may find. Each credit bureau; Equifax, Transunion and Experian, may report differently and have different scores. Use our free credit check to gauge how well you are currently managing your credit.
